Its time for Valve to remake the series. Maybe do a 3rd-person/RPG shooter like a Witcher-style videogame. Fix the FPS original game. Add more maps and missions. Expand and change a bit in its story. Use Source-2 engine to fix both games. The best part of any shooter is fighting lots of armed enemies by yourself, and HL2 does not give you that. HL2 is amazing in the few moments when it gives you a rare opportunity to fight alone without vehicles, such as the Highway 17 bridge. Here's a great critique of Half Life 2 on Youtube.
